Ocean University of Sri Lanka - Pool Lifeguard (NVQ Level 3) / Surf Lifeguard (NVQ Level 4)

Course Overview

This course is designed to produce well-trained and qualified Lifeguards to fulfil the job market. During the training period, swimming, first aid with CPR and AED, and modules related to water rescue are practised using a variety of aids and training equipment. This course is conducted under two exit levels namely Pool Lifeguard and Surf Lifeguard. Therefore, you can either complete modules under Pool Lifeguard and exit at the level 3 or continue with the modules under Surf Lifeguard to exit at the level 4.

If you wish to complete the course at the Level 3 ( Pool Lifeguard ) you will acquire knowledge and skills necessary to become a Pool Lifeguard as your occupation. If you wish to continue the course up to the Level 4 (Surf Lifeguard ), you will acquire knowledge and skills necessary to become a Surf Lifeguard. A Pool Lifeguard has to fulfil duties related to a Swimming pool and A Surf Life guard has to fulfil duties near the beach.This course is carried out under the accreditation of the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) and conducted in line with the national competency standards (NCS).

After completing this course you will be able to find jobs as a pool lifeguard, surf lifeguard, or lifeguard in hotels, adventure water parks, amusement parks in the public or private sector in locally and internationally.

Basic swimming, rescue swimming and physical fitness, Communication skills for lifeguard, Adept water safety activities and basic lifesaving methods, Maintain water based physical fitness, Maintain swimming skills, Maintain rescue skills, Perform first aid techniques, Perform advanced life support, Perform lifesaving activities at pool environment and Supervise safety and emergency rescue at swimming pool.
