PSCRB - Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats

Objectives

This syllabus covers the requirements of the STCW 2010 convention charter VI, section A-VI/2, and table A-VI/2-1. On meeting the minimum standard of competence in survival craft and rescue boats (other than fast rescue boats), a trainee will be adept to operate life-saving appliances and take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during launch. They will also be able to operate a survival craft engine and manage survivors after abandoning the ship. Trainees will have fundamental knowledge in handling all locating devices, including communication and signalling apparatus and pyrotechnics, application of first aid to survivors, and the actions to take to preserve the lives of those in their charge.


Course certificate

Upon successful completion of the course and demonstration of competence, a certificate may be issued certifying that the holder has met the standards of competency specified in Table A-VI/2-1 of STCW. Such certification may only be issued by centres approved by the administration.


Aims

This model course aims to provide training for candidates in launching and taking charge of a survival craft or a rescue boat in emergencies, following section A-VI/2 of the STCW code.


Entry Standards

For admission to the course, seafarers must pass a medical examination certified by a doctor attesting to good health. They must also have completed the four basic courses covering the familiarisation and basic safety training and instruction following Regulation VI/1 of STCW.
