AFF - Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting

Objectives

This syllabus covers the requirements of the STCW regulation 1978 as amended in 2010, REG.VI/3,Sec.A-VI/3 Para.5, and Table A-VI/3.

Upon meeting the minimum standard of competence in advanced firefighting, a trainee will be adept to take command, organise and train fire parties and control fire-fighting operations. The seafarer will have acquired knowledge of fire prevention and an ability to inspect and service fire detection and extinguishing systems and equipment. He will also be able to investigate and report on incidents involving fire.


Course certificate

On successful completion of the course and demonstration of competence, a certifying document may be issued to the holder that has met the standard of competence specified in STCW regulation 1978 as amended in 2010, REG.VI/3, Sec.A-VI/3 Para.5, and Table A-VI/3.

Note: If designated to control fire-fighting operations, seafarers must have completed advanced training in techniques for fire-fighting with particular emphasis on organisation, tactics and command. This training forms a part of the competence required of all officers.

A certificate may be issued only by centres approved by the administration.


Aims

The course aims to provide training in advanced fire-fighting following the STCW regulation 1978 as amended in 2010, REG.VI/3, Sec.A-VI/3 Para.5, and Table A-VI/3. The emphasis of the training is on organisation, tactics and command.


Entry Standards

The course is open to all seafarers who have completed basic training in fire prevention. All trainees must pass a medical examination certified by a doctor proving good health.
